Green Tides CIC is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and positive environment for all participants, volunteers, staff and members of the public involved in our activities.

We recognise our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults who may engage with our beach cleans, educational events, conservation projects and community activities.

All concerns relating to safeguarding will be taken seriously and responded to appropriately

Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Directors of Green Tides CIC
  • Volunteers
  • Contractors
  • Partner organisations involved in Green Tides activities

Principles

Green Tides CIC will:

  • Treat everyone with dignity and respect.
  • Provide a safe environment for all participants.
  • Listen to concerns and take them seriously.
  • Act promptly on any safeguarding concern.
  • Follow relevant legislation and guidance in Northern Ireland.
  • Ensure activities are planned with participant safety in mind.

Safeguarding Procedures

Any person who has concerns about the welfare or safety of a child, young person or vulnerable adult should immediately report their concern to a Director of Green Tides CIC.

The Director will:

  1. Record the concern.
  2. Assess immediate risk.
  3. Contact appropriate statutory services where necessary.
  4. Maintain confidentiality while ensuring safety.

If a participant is in immediate danger, emergency services will be contacted via 999.

Code of Conduct

Volunteers and representatives of Green Tides CIC will:

  • Treat all participants respectfully.
  • Avoid inappropriate language or behaviour.
  • Never engage in bullying, harassment or discrimination.
  • Avoid being alone with a child unless appropriate safeguarding arrangements are in place.
  • Report any concerns immediately.

Review

This policy will be reviewed annually by the Directors of Green Tides CIC.
